The GB Pro Series

The GB Pro Series is part of the ITF “Futures” circuit which sees tournaments being held across the world and is the hotbed of future talent for professional tennis. Players are fighting for valuable world ranking points and the Shrewsbury event has grown a valuable reputation on the circuit for hosting a great event with lots of spectators.

As a result, The Shrewsbury Club hosts an event which in the last few years has seen players not just from across Europe but from US, Canada and the Far East enter. It is a perfect opportunity to see future household names and some of the world's top tennis players before they become famous.

The tournament is open to spectators, entrance is free and it makes for an exciting week of tennis which we hope that will once more attract crowds of up to 500 as seen at previous events. Our stadium seating will be on courtside from Thursday onwards. A tournament programme is available at the Club with lots of information about the event.

For the last nine years the event has been sponsored nationally by Aegon but following the end of their contract in 2017 we are delighted that the Shrewsbury event has our own local sponsor in Budgen Motors. A local dealership with a reputation for friendly service, care and attention, Budgen Motors have long been associated with the Pro Series providing player transport and supporting the Budgen Motors Schools Day. In 2018 this support has been increased allowing Budgen Motors to be the lead sponsor, providing prize money for the players and allowing the event to be upgraded to a $25K tournament which will ensure a greater quality of player entry. There is also the chance for spectators to win a car as part of the event!

In 2017 we hosted wheelchair tennis for the first time with the Roma Sports National Wheelchair Tennis Series Finals weekend. This weekend is run alongside the Wheelchair Nationals and is a celebration of wheelchair tennis in Great Britain. It is a fun, social weekend with an Annual Awards dinner and social activities throughout the weekend. We are proud to be hosting it again in 2018 and spectators are welcome to see some exciting tennis.

In 2019 we are very excited to be hosting a $60K Womens Pro Series which should attract players from the top 100 world rankings. In a change of scheduling the event will start on a Monday and the Final will be on a Sunday. The tournament is scheduled to follow on from the Federation Cup event which is being staged the preceding weekend in Bath and the intention is that numerous players will move onto our event here is Shrewsbury once they have finished playing in the Federation Cup. This will be the highest ranking event we have staged in Shrewsbury for over 5 years and we are planning some new and exciting events around the tournament so watch this space!
