Brother and sister team up to win the Swan Hill House mixed doubles tennis tournament

Jon and Sarah Gidney were the winners of a new and enjoyable tennis competition last Sunday, which was staged on the six indoor courts at The Shrewsbury Club.

They emerged victorious from the 26 members which took part in the Swan Hill House mixed doubles tournament.

The event was sponsored by Shrewsbury residential home Swan Hill House, with owner Charlie Daker, a member at The Shrewsbury Club, taking part.  A round-robin tournament with each match consisting of one set saw the top two pairs in each group progressing to the semi-finals.

Jon and Sarah Gidney eventuallly beat Ollie Cores Birch and Antonia Bowett 6-4 in the final, with a BBQ and some drinks for the players after the event.

Simon Haddleton, The Shrewsbury Club’s director of tennis was pleased with how the event went: “It was great to see so many of our members enjoying this new event at the club, and we really appreciate the continued support from Swan Hill House helping us to host competitive events like this.

Tournament sponsor Charlie Daker added: “I’m really excited about our involvement with The Shrewsbury Club, it will provide great opportunities to participate in a more active and exciting lifestyle for our guests, both in spectatorship and physical participation in sports and fitness.”
