Adam's Spying Mission to Paris

Adam Wharf, the director of performance tennis here at The Shrewsbury Club, insists it was a huge honour to be one of ten coaches selected by the Lawn Tennis Association to study the best young players in the world at the French Open. Adam and his fellow UK coaches were chosen to watch the top up and coming players competing at Roland Garros in Paris on a fact-finding mission for the LTA.

Club member Geoff retires after a long and enjoyable career as a pilot

Club member Geoff Stephenson will now be able to spend lots more time at The Shrewsbury Club after retiring as a pilot last month. Geoff, pictured, has lived locally in Bicton Heath since moving into the area from Cornwall in 1999 to take up a position within the 660 Squadron Army Air Corps based at RAF Shawbury.

The Shrewsbury Club compete on National Premier Tennis League stage.

Nigel Hunter, the manager of The Shrewsbury Club’s men's tennis team, has vowed they will come back stronger next year after competing in the prestigious Hunters National Premier League Finals. The local tennis aces excelled to book their place as one of the top 16 teams in the country at an event hosted by David Lloyd Leeds. They were knocked out at the group stage in a strong tournament eventually won by a powerful Cardiff Met University side.

Shrewsbury tennis aces all set for National Premier League Finals in Leeds

Tennis players representing The Shrewsbury Club are excited about the challenge of taking on the country’s elite teams after qualifying for the Hunters National Premier League Finals for the second year in a row. They will head to Yorkshire to take part in a prestigious indoor tournament - which features professional tennis stars - at David Lloyd Leeds after booking their place among the top club teams in the UK by winning a play-off match in Bristol last month.

Kate Ball claimed a hat-trick of top national awards in a competition renowned for discovering new modelling talent and launching careers. The Shrewsbury Club member enjoyed notable success at the prestigious Top Model UK awards, having been attending auditions since last September.

Annabel Croft entertains guests at Shrewsbury sports dinner

Tennis star Annabel Croft proved an entertaining guest speaker at The Shrewsbury Club’s latest successful sports dinner. The former British women’s No 1 - once ranked as high as 24 in the world - shared stories from her playing days and subsequent career as a television presenter after taking the decision to retire from playing at the age of 21. Sam Richardson, a Lawn Tennis Association coach who devised the popular Tennis for Kids programme, was also an engaging speaker.

Tennis stars set to serve up a treat in Shrewsbury

Professional tennis returns to Shrewsbury this weekend - with organisers hoping big crowds will again take advantage of free admission to watch world class tennis. Players from across Europe are heading to The Shrewsbury Club to compete on the indoor courts in the $15,000 Aegon GB Pro-Series tournament. It’s an International Tennis Federation event which often produces stars of the future. The tournament runs from Sunday 12th February - Saturday 18th February.
